Varnish has quite a bit of "orange peel" to it

Store owner replied: Hi Shannon, We apologize about that. Making these parts in large numbers can cause some of them to be wrapped up slightly too early causing a bit of rippling. However, since there are only 5 coats of spray varnish on these to get you through the first season, it is recommended to add more varnish prior to installation if you have time still in the off season. There is information regarding correcting any orange peel in the care instructions on the website (more detailed) and in the care pamphlet that came with your order.
The new hatch not only looks great, it fits perfectly. The solid mahogany is finished beautifully and made of two pieces joined in the middle. I’m impressed with the inlaid “keyway” splines on each end to strengthen the joint.
